Student Services



Consumer Information Report

Annually, by September 1, Palm Beach Atlantic University prepares, publishes, and distributes, upon request to employees, currently enrolled students, and prospective employees and students, its Annual Consumer Information Report. This report contains information required by the U.S. Department of Education of schools participating in Title IV programs, such as general consumer information (financial assistance, refund policies, etc.), the annual campus security report, drug-free workplace information, drug and alcohol abuse prevention information, student and parental rights under Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), various information related to PBA’s participation in athletic programs, availability of employees to disseminate consumer information, etc. Information requirements are based upon the school’s specific Title IV program participation.

Campus Security Report

As part of the Annual Consumer Information Report, Palm Beach Atlantic University provides a campus security report containing:

  1. Statistical data on the occurrences of, as well as the number of arrests resulting from, certain criminal activities on campus. This report may be found at http://www.pba.edu/campus-safety. PBA will provide a paper copy upon request. If you would like a copy of this report, you may call ext. 32500 or 803-2500 from off-campus.
  2. Current policy and procedure statements. This report is prepared by Campus Safety and Security.

Drug-Free Campus

In keeping with the Drug-Free Workplace Act of 1988 and the Drug-Free Schools and Communities Act Amendment of 1989, the unlawful manufacture, distribution, possession, or use of a controlled substance is strictly prohibited within the bounds of the Palm Beach Atlantic University campus or any properties leased or controlled by Palm Beach Atlantic University as well as at any PBA-sponsored activities or events.

Reasonable Accommodation Policy

(Americans with Disabilities Act)

The University seeks to comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 as well as Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 by affording reasonable accommodations to qualified individuals with disabilities. Students who have questions about their entitlement to benefits or who have grievances under these statutes should contact The Student Success Center, 2nd Floor of Lassiter Student Center. Sexual Harassment

Sexual harassment is considered to be a serious breach of proper conduct. Engaging in sexual harassment of employees or students is a violation of Title VII, Section 703 of the Civil Rights Act. Sexual harassment includes unwelcome sexual advances, requests for sexual favors, and other physical and expressive behavior of a sexual nature in which:

  • Submission to such conduct becomes a term or condition of an individual’s employment or education;
  • Submission to such conduct becomes a basis for academic or employment evaluation;
    or
  • The conduct creates a hostile or demeaning employment or educational environment.

All students, staff, and faculty are responsible for helping to assure that the University is kept free of workplace harassment. Faculty or staff experiencing or witnessing workplace harassment should immediately notify the Director of Human Resources. If any faculty or staff member believes that he or she is being harassed by the Director of Human Resources, the complaint should be brought to the Vice President and Chief Financial Officer. Students should immediately notify the Student Development office if they are experiencing or witnessing harassment. If any student believes that he or she is being harassed by a faculty or staff member, the complaint should be brought to the office of Human Resources.

Appropriate disciplinary action will be taken against anyone found to have violated this policy. Persons reporting incidents of sexual harassment, assault, or violence will be treated with care, concern, and confidentiality. Support, assistance, and counseling are available.

Dining Services

A University life is about the life of the mind and soul. And a whole lot more. Our Dining service offers an atmosphere where you can socialize, relax and enjoy dining at the Fresh Food Company (FFC) in Fraser Dining Hall. FFC provides for a variety of tastes from traditional, home-style favorites to pasta, vegetarian and vegan options; a Grill Station; the Mongolian Asian Grill; and lots of options at the Produce and Salad Bar. And don’t forget the soups, fresh bread, deli, and desserts. FFC is open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

For your convenience, ARAMARK offers several meal plan options for residents and commuters, and with the All Access 7 and 5 meal plans, you can come into FFC as many times per day as you like for either seven or five days a week. Our priority is to satisfy you by providing a safe, nutritious, fun, and exciting dining program. A Meal Plan is required for students who live in PBA residence halls. Money can be added to your ID card for convenient cashless transactions, and with a meal plan you also have Declining Balance cash you can use at any location. Catering is also available for students, and a Budget Series Menu is in the planning for students and faculty and staff.

Other dining options at PBA include:

  • POD (our convenience store), has a lot to offer for on–the-go items: salads, sandwiches, a panini grill to press and heat your sandwich, snacks, including gluten free snacks, and plenty more.
  • Einstein’s in the Warren Library offers breakfast, lunch, dinner, and late night snacks with a variety of bagels, signature salads, coffee, pastries, and much more.
  • Chick-fil-A (CFA) is located in the Green Complex and offers CFA chicken sandwiches, salads, lemonade, and milk shakes. CFA is open for breakfast, serving a variety of items for your choosing such as Mini Chicken Biscuits, coffee, and hash browns. CFA is also open for lunch and dinner, as well as scheduled games for the Sports Center.

Health and Wellness

Health and Wellness provides a variety of both free and low cost medical services and health education programming.

Any PBA student may be treated at the Health and Wellness Center regardless of insurance coverage. ARNP visits are available for a minimal co-payment and nursing visits with the RN are free. Immunizations, prescription medication and lab fees vary.

Any part-time or evening student enrolled in at least 1 course at Palm Beach Atlantic University may elect to enroll in the student insurance plan on a Voluntary basis. Students must actively attend classes for at least the first 31 days, after the date when coverage becomes effective.A Medical History form is required for all students and must be on file in the Health and Wellness Center before a student is cleared to attend class.

Location

Main Campus

Situated on the tropical southeast coast of Florida, the University is located in West Palm Beach. Palm Beach Atlantic is easily accessible by highway (Interstate 95, Interstate 75, and the Florida Turnpike), by air (Palm Beach International Airport), by rail (Amtrak), by bus (Greyhound), and by ship (Port of Palm Beach). The campus overlooks the beautiful Intracoastal Waterway and Palm Beach, with the Atlantic Ocean only minutes away.

Students enjoy the many cultural benefits of the famous South Florida winter season, such as Broadway plays, operas, concerts, and lectures by national and world leaders. The magnificent Raymond F. Kravis Center for the Performing Arts, only a few blocks from the campus, brings world-renowned performers to Palm Beach County. Students also benefit from the cultural facilities of the Norton Museum of Art, the Flagler Museum, the Society of the Four Arts, and the Science Museum and Planetarium of Palm Beach County.

Sporting events are numerous in South Florida. The area’s many golf courses and tennis courts, as well as facilities for water skiing, surfing, sailing, and sport fishing, are easily accessible. Just 60 minutes away in Miami are the Miami Dolphins professional football team, the Miami Marlins professional baseball team, the Miami Heat professional basketball team, and the Florida Panthers professional hockey team. The University is, by car, less than 60 minutes from Miami and three hours from Walt Disney World, EPCOT Center, Sea World, and Universal Studios and, by air, an hour from the Bahamas Islands.

The Gulf Stream keeps the Palm Beaches warm in the winter and pleasant in the summer, providing a valuable “laboratory” for the oceanography, marine biology, and SCUBA-diving courses.

Orlando Campus

The Orlando campus is located off Interstate 4 in the Millenia Lakes office complex, easily accessible from all major roads surrounding Orlando. The Mall at Millenia, within sight of the campus, offers students a range of choices for dining and shopping. Attractions include the nearby Holy Land complex with Sea World, Universal Studios and Disney World properties just minutes away.

Wellington Campus

Palm Beach Atlantic’s Wellington Campus is located 14 miles west of West Palm Beach in the town of Wellington, Florida. The campus, located off State Road 7 just north of forest Hill Boulevard, is accessible by car from Interstate 95 or Florida’s Turnpike, using east-west connector arteries of forest Hill Boulevard or Southern Boulevard. Adjacent communities include Royal Palm Beach, the Acreage, Loxahatchee and Greenacres. Belle Glade and Pahokee, communities along the shore of Lake Okeechobee, are within easy driving distance. The campus is minutes away from the shopping and dining options at the Mall at Wellington Green and surrounding shopping centers. Wellington Regional Medical Center is located nearby along with employers in the service, agriculture, real estate development and tourism industries. Attractions include polo and equestrian events along with concerts, exhibits and activities at the South Florida Fair Complex.

Main Campus Facilities

The PBA campus is a comprehensive college community including classroom, research, library, residence, food service, health care, recreation, theatrical, musical, and study facilities.

Borbé Hall

Borbé Hall contains offices for the School of Education and Behavioral Studies, the School of Arts and Sciences, and faculty in English department. In addition, the Center for Educational Innovation is housed there. The Department of Safety & Security is located in the northeast corner of the first floor.

Catherine T. MacArthur Hall

Catherine T. MacArthur Hall houses classrooms, the science laboratories, and offices for science and math faculty of the School of Arts and Sciences as well as faculty in behavioral sciences.

Clifford and Mary Tolerton Hood American Free Enterprise Building

This building houses the Registrar’s Office and Student Financial Aid Office.

Fern Street Theatre

The Fern Street Theatre expands the University campus northward into the heart of West Palm Beach’s cultural district. The two-story building located at 500 Fern Street is used by the Theatre Department for faculty offices, classrooms and performance space.

Greene Complex for Sports and Recreation

The Greene Complex houses a 1,750 seat arena/convocation center, intramural gymnasium, handball and racquetball courts, indoor jogging track, fitness center, human performance laboratory, aerobics room, training room, classrooms, snack bar, and offices for the Athletic and Campus Recreation departments.

Gregory Hall

This building houses the Lloyd L. Gregory School of Pharmacy, providing over 40,000 square feet of research and educational space designed to accommodate three hundred pharmacy students and requisite faculty

Health and Wellness Center

Located on the ground floor of Ocean-view Hall next to the Campus Store, the Health and Wellness Center offers medical services from our Nurse Practitioner and Registered Nurse. A variety of Wellness Education Programming is offered throughout the year.

Information Village

Located on south end of campus east of Gregory Hall, Information Village houses the Department of Campus Information Systems, including the PBACard office and Media Services.

Oceanview Hall

Ocean-view Hall houses the Ocean-view Residence Hall, Dixie Garage, School of Nursing, Campus Store, Health and Wellness Center as well as faculty offices for Athletic Training and Physical Education.

Okeechobee Hall

This building houses classrooms, the administrative and faculty offices of the Catherine T. MacArthur School of Leadership, and the School of Ministry.

Pembroke Hall

This building contains film, television and radio production studios, as well as editing suites, media classrooms and faculty offices for the School of Communication and Media.

Rinker School of Business Building

This building contains classrooms, administrative offices, the Master of Business Administration program, and faculty offices for all disciplines of the Rinker School of Business, as well as some disciplines from the School of Arts and Sciences.

Sachs Administration Building

The Sachs Administration building houses the major administrative offices of the University including the offices of the President, the Provost (Academic Programs), Business Affairs, and Development.

Warren Library

The Warren Library provides a collection of more than 204,000 volumes that include books, e-books, media, and periodicals. Periodical subscriptions include approximately 6,000 titles received in paper and micro-form and accessed electronically through research databases. Library users have access to the online library catalog (Voyager) and numerous research databases through the Internet on campus or via a proxy server for off-campus users. The service-oriented staff offers one-on-one reference assistance in the library, by phone and via email. Librarians partner with faculty to offer course-related instruction in research skills in the library’s Information Skills Lab or in the traditional classroom. The PBA Library is a member of the Southeast Florida Library Information Network (SEFLIN), a resource-sharing network of 135 academic and public libraries in South Florida. The PBA University Library participates in the SEFLIN Virtual Library. Through membership in OCLC, PBA Library offers access to the holdings of approximately 44,000 libraries in 86 countries, most of which are potentially available through the Interlibrary Loan.

Vera Lea Rinker Hall

This building houses the Department of Music. A 160-seat recital hall, a large instrumental rehearsal hall, and administrative offices are contained on the first two floors. The upper floors house practice rooms, studios, classrooms, labs, and a large choral rehearsal hall.

William G. Lassiter, Jr. Student Center

The Lassiter Student Center provides offices for the Student Success Center, Multicultural Services, Residence Life, Student Accountability, Student Activities, Student Leadership Development, and Vice President for Student Development. A cafeteria dining hall, mailroom, Commuter Recreation Lounge, Study/Game Room, conference room, and other amenities are housed within the center. The Weyenberg Center, located on the second floor, provides flexible space for numerous campus and community events. The Annan Chapel provides a quiet place for personal worship and reflection.

Mailroom

The mailroom is located in the Lassiter Student Center. Hours of operation are Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Mailroom personnel are available to assist with UPS, FedEx packages and USPS mail services with weighing and stamping of packages and letters. Shipping supplies such as boxes, envelopes, packing tape and bubble wrap are also available.

Sailfish Services

Sailfish Services offers students, parents and employees one central location to take care of many administrative needs. Here, students can go to accomplish the “business” of being in school such as payments, forms, and transcripts; faxing and scanning documents; network password troubleshooting; Free Notary Service: and account information look up without running around campus.

Sailfish Services provides Fast-Incredible-Service-Here (FISH) in its convenient location at 900 S. Dixie Highway. The office is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., and representatives may be reached at 561.803.2000.

  • Call Center: Sailfish Services operates the Call Center for the campus, answering the main telephone numbers for the University.
  • Federal Work Study Payroll: Students may pick up their payroll checks in the conveniently located Sailfish Services office.
  • Financial Aid: Sailfish Services answers questions in regards to student financial aid awards.
  • Forms: At Sailfish Services students may pick up and/or return Change of Address/Phone/E-mail forms, and all other forms regarding academic requests, such as duplicate diploma orders and regalia ordering.
  • Payments: Student account payments are made at Sailfish Services. Sailfish Services representatives serve as cashiers for the campus community accepting cash, checks, Visa, MasterCard, American Express and Discover. An online payment option is available at myPBA.
  • PBACard Questions: Sailfish Services assist with placing money on students PBACard accounts and reviewing current balances.
  • Registration: Sailfish Services assists students with registration issues such as answering questions about the online registration process, taking payments, clearing past due balances and explaining registration holds.
  • Student Account Questions: Sailfish Services answers questions about student accounts and can print copies of schedules and bills. Students may also view their account online at myPBA.
  • Transcripts: Students may request official and unofficial PBA transcripts at Sailfish Services. Transcripts may also be ordered online at www.getmytranscript.com.

Student Accounts

Student Accounts is located on the first floor of Sachs Hall, to the right of the main entrance. Office personnel are available to assist students and parents with:

  • Addressing detailed student billing inquiries;
  • Arranging for use of approved monthly payment plans; and
  • Sending letters and answering questions regarding employer reimbursement programs.

Student Services: Main Campus

Automatic Deposit Machines (ADM)

ADM Machines are located in the Lassiter Student Center, Einstein’s, and the Greene Sports Complex. These machines can be utilized to place money on a student’s PBACard, which can be used on Campus in the laundry room, vending machines, Campus Store, all food service locations, and select copiers and printers. These funds are NOT available for off campus use. Any questions, please call the PBACard Office at 561.803.2515.

Campus Bookstore

The Campus Bookstore, located on the first floor of the Ocean-view Hall, is open year round. Students can view hours of operation, shop online and check course requirements by visiting the bookstore on the web at http://campusstore.pba.edu. The Campus Store stocks the required and recommended course materials in addition to helpful reference materials, study aids, Bibles and devotional books. Buy back of textbooks for PBA use is held at the end of every term. Students will be notified via PBA email for dates and times. The Campus Store is the on-campus source for University apparel, spirit gear, snacks, drinks, basic first aid supplies, and sundry items. The Campus Bookstore accepts most major credit cards and general funds on the PBACard.

Purchasing Textbooks Using Financial Aid Funds

Students may use their pending Financial Aid credit to purchase textbooks via their PBACard. To do so, students must first visit the Student Accounts page on myPBA to transfer funds to their PBACard. Once the funds are available on the card, students may use their PBACard to make purchases at The Campus Store, both online and on the main campus.

Campus Safety

Students, faculty, and administration all have an interest in preserving a safe learning and living environment on our campus. The campus is patrolled by Department of Campus Safety officers, seven days a week, 24 hours a day. Campus Safety officers work closely with the West Palm Beach Police in the event of any criminal activity on campus. Campus Safety officers are also authorized to report any misconduct of students to the appropriate departments. The Department of Campus Safety is located at the northeast corner of Borbé Hall.

Campus Recreation

Campus Recreation offers quality programs and services that enhance wellness through the promotion of healthy lifestyle and activity. Campus Recreation provides a safe environment to enhance sportsmanship, leadership, and quality of life for the campus community. Students, faculty, and staff are able to take advantage of a variety of recreation activities, fitness programs, and services. The goal of the Department of Campus Recreation is to offer quality recreation programs and services to PBA students, faculty, and staff. Programs and Services provided by Campus Recreation include:

  • Facility - Greene Complex: Inside the Greene Complex is the Mahoney Gymnasium, Rubin Arena, Racquetball Courts, and Fitness Center. The Fitness Center is on the second floor of the Greene Complex for Sports and Recreation. The Greene Complex hours are available on the Campus Recreation homepage and on myPBA.
  • Intramural Program: The intramural program offers competition in traditional sports. Each semester a variety of sports activities is offered for students, faculty and staff to participate. Sports include volleyball, flag football, basketball, softball, and soccer.
  • Fitness Program: This program comprises of personal training, group fitness classes and fitness incentives. Fitness incentives are special designed six-week programs to incorporate fun in fitness activities with the added benefit of prizes at the end. A full schedule of group fitness class is available during varied times of the week. Group Exercise classes include Pilates, Core Crunch, Zumba and others.   • Club Sports: Current clubs offered are Men’s Lacrosse, Women’s Lacrosse, PBA Spirit Squad (Cheerleading and Dance Team) and Fencing. More information on Club Sports is available on MyPBA.

Campus Recreation employs students to work within the department. Students are employed as intramural supervisors, sports officials, group exercise instructors, personal trainers, member service attendants, fitness attendant and rovers. Vacancies are posted at the Greene Complex or through College Central. To apply for a position with Campus Recreation visit MyPBA for an application.

People may also find information regarding Campus Recreation on the Campus Recreation Home Page. The Campus Recreation Office is located in the Greene Complex for Sports & Recreation. Students, faculty, and staff are required to show PBA ID each time they use the facility.

Career Development

The Office of Career Development provides assistance to all students and alumni in career planning, job placement and graduate school preparation. Career planning is a holistic process that involves a variety of programs and principles. Students are encouraged to seek God’s direction throughout their career and life planning process. Since this is an on-going process, students should begin their career exploration during their first year with evaluation/assessment and ending in their final year with the transition into the employment or graduate school arena. The Office of Career Development is located on the first floor of the Lassiter Student Center. Appointments can be made by calling 561-803-2060.

Student Success Center

The Student Success Center is dedicated to providing assistance to all university students so that they may make the most of the college experience. The Student Success Center is the home of the First-Year Experience Program, Academic Support, and Disability Services. Located on the second floor of the Lassiter Student Center, we operate Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. You may take advantage of walk-in hours or schedule an appointment by calling 561.803.2063.

Academic Support: The Student Success Center is for all students who desire to improve their academic skills while at PBA. Whether the goal is to earn a competitive GPA or make it through a difficult course, the SSC is here for you. By providing a personalized one-on-one environment or an interactive on-line experience with a qualified tutor, the SSC staff strives to build professional and personal relationships with students in order to carefully assess their individual needs and provide appropriate academic support. Our services can help you clarify and reinforce what you learn in the classroom, enhance specific skills (e.g., math skills, test taking, memory), or provide a network of support for your academic aspirations.

Bridges: A program designed to assist new students with math and writing challenges through mentoring and other supports. Bridges helps students learn to use tools that will put all areas of their lives in order — spiritually, academically and socially — through monthly events and individual meetings with the Bridges Advisor.

Disability Services: Palm Beach Atlantic University is committed to providing optimal educational opportunities for all students, including those enrolled or admitted who have disabilities under Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 (ADA).

University policy provides for reasonable accommodations to be made for students with disabilities on an individual and flexible basis. It is the responsibility of students with disabilities to seek available assistance and make their needs known to the Assistant Director of the Student Success Center – Academic Support. In order to determine accommodations for special needs, PBA asks students to submit a recent professional assessment that documents the disability.

Online students may benefit from electronic access to Main Campus services, such as Technology Support, Sailfish Services, Career Development and Writing Center, as well as electronic resources and research assistance through the Warren Library.

Campus Bookstore

Online students may rent or purchase textbooks, see hours of operation, shop online and check course requirements by visiting the bookstore on the web at http://campusstore.pba.edu. Textbooks may be shipped directly to students, or picked up in store.

Student Services: Orlando Campus

Bookstore (Campus Store)

Orlando Campus textbooks are shipped directly to students by MBS Direct. Students are required to keep an updated home address on file with the Orlando Campus to ensure accurate textbook shipping. Textbooks are charged as a flat rate per course, resulting in subsidized textbook costs and significant savings. Books are shipped automatically in accordance with course enrollment. Students with questions about textbook orders or shipment should call the Orlando Campus at 407.226.5955 or MBS Direct at 1.800.325.3252.

Library

Library resources are available to all Orlando Campus students. The University Library, located on the West Palm Beach campus, provides a collection of more than 180,000 book, media, and periodical holdings, all accessible either online or via check out for Orlando Campus students. Students can access library resources online at http://www.pba.edu/library or by calling 561.803.2226 to have library materials shipped directly to their home. The resources of other libraries are available through interlibrary loan. Online library services require the use of a PalmNet ID and password.

Other Student Services

Orlando Campus staff is available to answer questions and provide help with payments, billings, accounts, financial aid documents and refunds, change of address or personal information, schedules, PBA I.D. cards, registration adjustments, and to direct students to resources regarding advising, degree requirements, academic support, financial aid, and disability support services.

Student Services: Wellington Campus

Wellington Campus students may benefit from electronic access to Main Campus services, such as Technology Support, Sailfish Services, Health & Wellness, Campus Safety, Bookstore and Writing Center. for more information regarding the Wellington Campus, call 561.803.2850.

Library

Students, faculty and staff at the Wellington Campus will be able to access the resources available to users of the Warren Library located at the main West Palm Beach PBA campus. This includes borrowing materials, electronic resources and research assistance.
