3 Credit Hour(s)
This course is the third of three Medical-Surgical courses that provide a basis for the generalist graduate nurse while building on NUR 3343 , NUR 4003 , and other pre-requisite nursing courses. The concepts of complex collaborative care and advanced skills provide preparation for practice within environments where enhanced technical and therapeutic interventions support patients with life-threatening conditions. Evidence based nursing care practice is focused on holistic, patient-centered care of diverse adult and older adult populations, as well as, their affected family and community systems. The nursing process, based on General System Theory, is utilized to implement care reflecting an understanding of human growth and development, pathophysiology, pharmacology, medical management, and nursing management in the complex care environment. Ethical and end-of-life issues specific to patients with life-threatening conditions are explored.
