NUR 3122 - Medical-Surgical Nursing I: Clinical

2 Credit Hour(s)
This course provides the clinical component to NUR 3123  and is the first of three Medical-Surgical clinical courses that provide a basis for the generalist graduate nurse. This course applies the concepts from NUR 3112  to the acute care setting. The concepts of health promotion, disease prevention, and disease process for diverse adult and older adult populations and their affected families are introduced in the clinical setting. The nursing process, based on General System Theory is considered while implementing compassionate, patient-centered, evidence based care while respecting patient and family preferences. Ethical and legal values and the Christian worldview are interwoven in a culturally congruent process in each clinical setting. The novice professional role of the nurse is developed as students provide care in multiple clinical settings for persons experiencing potential, acute, and chronic health care problems as well as the promotion of wellness.
