131 Credit Hours

General Education Requirements - 41 Credit Hours


Music and Fine Art majors must meet the Baccalaureate Degree Requirements  as set out in the General Education Program .

  • Fine Art Requirement: Music and Fine Arts majors fulfill the two-hour Fine Arts elective through major study.
  • Global Studies Requirement: MUS 3003 - World Music  is required as the Global Elective.
  • Science Requirement: PHY 1063 - Acoustics of Music  is required as the Science Elective.

Performance Requirements - 18 Credit Hours


  • Applied Principal Music, Voice, Keyboard, or Instrumental (6 Credit Hours, minimum)
  • Applied Secondary Music (4 Credit Hours, minimum)
  • Major Ensembles (8 Credit Hours minimum in Oratorio Chorus, PBA Symphony, or Symphonic Band)
  • All Composition majors must pass the piano proficiency exam. Piano Class or Piano Secondary studies may be required for students who enter the program with insufficient keyboard skills.

Elective Music Courses - 6 Credit Hours


(4 hours must be upper-level)

Ensembles may not be used to fulfill elective course requirements

*Six additional required credit hours are needed to meet the 131 total and the 33 upper-level

Note:


Candidates for the Bachelor of Music degree in composition are encouraged to include the following in their electives: instrumental and vocal methods courses, private instruction in piano, and courses in literature and visual arts.
