Program Learning Outcomes


“Expected student learning outcomes specify the knowledge, skills, values, and attitudes students are expected to attain in courses or in a program.” Page 69. Resource Manual for the Principles of Accreditation: Foundations for Quality Enhancement, Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC), 2018. 

  1. Students completing the Baccalaureate Program in Biology will demonstrate a working knowledge of the biological sciences, as demonstrated on a national standardized test and their successful completion of biology courses.
  2. Students will write a mature analysis of scientific literature, informed by the appropriate tools of the profession.
  3. Students will employ critical and creative thinking in various reading and interpretive processes.

 

General Education Requirements - 43 Credit Hours


Biology majors must meet the Baccalaureate Degree Requirements as set out in the General Education Program , except for the Mathematics and Natural Science requirements. These are met by completing MAT 1853  and BIO 1103 . The additional SAS Natural Science requirements are met by taking BIO 1101  and CHM 1013 /CHM 1011 /CHM 1010 .

Global Studies and Social Science Requirements


One course must be selected from each of the following lists of Global Studies courses and Social Science courses. (Pre-Health students must elect PSY 2133  to meet the Social Science requirement)

Additional Required Credit Hours 21-22 Credit Hours


This meets the 120 total and the 42 upper level requirements. One to five of the required credit hours must be upper level.
