Master of Divinity + Master of Arts, Philosophy of Religion Dual Degree (M.Div + MAPR)

Aim and Outcomes

The Master of Divinity and Master of Arts, Philosophy of Religion dual degree program (MDiv + MAPR) is for students who wish to combine vocational ministry training with advanced theological engagement with pressing philosophical questions in light of Scripture and the rich heritage of Christian faith and practice. Program Length

Dual degrees allow students to complete two degrees simultaneously with fewer credit hours required than if completing those degrees separately. Dual-degree students can complete the dual-degree requirements in three years (12–15 credit hours each semester, in addition to Summer courses). Admission

Dual-degree applicants must be accepted into each program independently. The MDiv + MAPR dual degree program is not available in the MDiv evening/weekend modality. The admission requirements and process for each degree may be found in the relevant Admission  section of the Graduate and Pharmacy Catalog.

Degree Requirements

All dual-degree students studying for the MDiv + MAPR dual degrees (93 credit hours) will complete the specified MDiv and MAPR courses. For the MDiv, dual-degree students will complete the integrated core (36 credit hours), MDiv ministry-training courses (15 credit hours), and biblical languages (12 credit hours). For the MAPR, dual-degree students will complete 30 credit hours of specified courses. Biblical Languages - 12 Credit Hours


Students may choose from Hebrew and/or Greek courses at the Elementary, Intermediate, and/or Advanced level: BIB 5013 , BIB 5023 , BIB 5203 , BIB 5213 , BIB 6233 , BIB 6243 , BIB 5033 , BIB 5043 , BIB 5113 , BIB 5123 , BIB 6103 , BIB 6113 . For students without previous biblical languages, it is recommended they take all four courses in the same biblical language.

Philosophy Electives - 6 Credit Hours

  • 3 credit hours of MDiv integrated core courses fulfill 3 credit hours of MAPR core requirements.
  • 9 credit hours of MAPR core courses fulfill 9 credit hours of MDiv elective requirements.
  • Public Philosophy (PHL 5063) fulfills the MDiv Apprenticeship: Discipleship (MLS 5803) requirement.
