Baccalaureate Degree Requirements (Bachelor’s Degrees)


Faith, Roots, and Reason (General Education) Coursework - 43 Credit Hours*


This is a broad overview of courses that are approved to satisfy Faith, Roots, and Reason (General Education) requirements.  Your major may specify your Faith, Roots, and Reason course selections in one or more categories.  For a list of major-specific course requirements, refer to your major in the Programs of Study.  Your ability to select any particular course listed may also vary depending on your student population.

*Credit hours indicated here and in the categories below reflect the minimum number of credits that are needed to satisfy Faith, Roots, and Reason requirements.  Your required credit hours may be higher based on your selected major and your student population.

III. Humanities and Fine Arts - 14 Credit Hours


IV. Mathematics and Science* - 6 Credit Hours


  • MAT XXX3 - Any mathematics course, MAT 1803  or higher** 3 Credit Hours

Note:


*Natural Science majors fulfill the 6 credits of science and math courses through their major requirements.

**MAT 1803 - Survey of Finite Mathematics  or higher, after satisfactory completion of any prerequisites. For a list of major-specific course requirements, refer to your major in the Programs of Study .

School of Liberal Arts and Sciences Majors: Students with a major in the School of Liberal Arts and Sciences have additional science requirements. Refer to your major in the Programs of Study  for more information.

V. Orientation - 1 Credit Hour


Note:


*FYE First Year Experience is required for all traditional undergraduate students entering with fewer than 30 credit hours.

However, based on the criteria listed below for transferrable college-level credits completed at a regionally-accredited degree-granting post-secondary institution,** the FYE 1001 requirement shall be deemed as waived or met.  Rules related to Palm Beach Atlantic University’s current transfer credit policy noted in Academic Policies  apply.  

For transfers who have successfully completed:

  • 30 or more transferrable credits OR
  • Between 25 and 29 transferrable credits AND
  • A closely equivalent FYE or College Success course with a grade of “C-” or above

For freshmen with hours who have successfully completed:

  • Full-time status—a minimum of 12 semester credit hours—for at least one semester or term at an accredited** post-secondary institution AND
  • Over 25 transferrable credit hours AND
  • A closely equivalent FYE or College Success course with a grade of “C-” or above

** PBA’s 30 credit hour residency requirement applies to transfer credits completed at degree-granting postsecondary institutions solely with national accreditations recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the coursework was completed.  Upon the successful completion of 30 credit hours at PBA (with a 2.0 PBA cumulative GPA or higher), students must seek transfer credit validations for closely equivalent FYE or College Success courses in which a grade of “C-” or above has been earned.  Please refer to PBA’s transfer credit policy noted in Academic Policies  for further related details.
