Providing students with life-changing opportunities to travel the world and broaden their perspective on learning and life, the David and Leighan Rinker Center for Experiential Learning offers multiple pathways for study away opportunities. Current pathways for experiential learning are Semester Study Abroad (Fall, Spring, and Summer), Class Abroad (Winter, Spring, and Summer breaks), and Serve Abroad (Winter, Spring, and Summer breaks). These opportunities aim to foster intellectual curiosity, encourage thoughtful reflection, and develop essential skills for lifelong engagement and leadership in the global community. Participation in these opportunities is a privilege awarded to students in good standing in the areas of academics, discipline, Workship, and Chapel.
Semester Abroad
PBA students are eligible for a semester abroad experience when they reach sophomore academic-standing (30+ credit hours) and have completed two semesters at PBA. With guidance from an RCEL Study Abroad Advisor, PBA students enroll in their preferred host university abroad, receiving full academic credit towards their four-year degree plan, all while utilizing most or all their financial aid.
With more a wide range of locations and academic programs available, students will be able to find the experience that is best suited for them. Potential study abroad locations include:
- Cusco, Peru
- Jerusalem, Israel
- Kampala, Uganda
- Klaipeda, Lithuania
- London, England
- Oxford, England
- Prague, Czech Republic
- Rome, Italy
- Seoul, South Korea
- Valencia, Spain
- And more!
Class Abroad
In addition to semester-long programs, students can participate in faculty-led short-term programs known as Class Abroad. Each Class Abroad program is planned by PBA faculty members who organize an academic course with an international travel component. In the past, such trips have included destinations like Israel, Paris, Vietnam, Germany, and the Galapagos. Students receive academic credit for the course while gaining hands-on experience in their studies.
Serve Abroad
Serve Abroad opportunities are offered each year through various departments across campus such as Campus Ministries, Gregory Center for Medical Missions, and Nursing. RCEL can connect interested students to a current list of offerings.
Any interested students should contact the RCEL office at RCEL@pba.edu for further information, or visit the office in Okeechobee Hall 107.
