PRX 2102 - Introduction to Health Care Delivery and Patient Safety2 Credit Hours This course provides an overview of how pharmacy services and pharmaceutical products are integrated within the health care system of the United States, with a focus on socio-economic factors and marketplace influences. Healthcare is explored using a systems approach to identify the most critical processes and discover how they are interrelated. Students learn to recognize key barriers to effective healthcare, as well as those factors that optimize the functioning of a healthcare system. Emphasis is placed on developing an appreciation for the complexities of healthcare, the important roles that pharmacists play within the healthcare system, and the importance of engagement in quality improvement and patient safety. Students will receive a certification in quality improvement as part of the course.
