COU 5263 - Diagnosis and Treatment in Counseling3 Credit Hours The course introduces students to the concepts of psychopathology and to the diagnostic process, including differential diagnosis and the use of current diagnostic classification systems, such as the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM) and the International Classification of Diseases (ICD). General principles of etiology and prevention along with principles and practices for the promotion of optimal mental health are explored. The course also identifies the most effective treatments and introduces students to the implementation of those treatments.
