PHR 1103 - Principles of Drug Action I3 Credit Hours This course provides an overview of the application of pharmacological principles to the understanding of drug action at the molecular level. This course introduces the student to the basic concepts of a drug’s physical and chemical properties and the principles of drug action; places special emphasis on: (1) terms used in pharmacology, toxicology and therapeutics, (2) determinants of drug absorption and distribution, (3) drug metabolism and elimination, (4) introduction to physiological receptors and the nature of the drug-receptor interaction, (5) application of pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic principles to drug therapy, (6) introduction to pharmacogenomics, and (7) chemical basis of drug allergies and sensitivities.
