Multidisciplinary in scope, course work in Community Psychology involves consideration of social problems, provides a framework for development of substantive solutions, and facilitates the elucidation of the mechanisms that promote the spiritual, mental, and physical well-being of people in the community. The major in Community Psychology major provides rigorous academic preparation for students who wish to pursue careers in human services, family and youth programs, community development mental and physical health, counseling, violence prevention programs, multicultural program development, programs for the elderly, and human relations. The major also prepares the motivated student for graduate work in a number of academic and applied research fields including sociology, counseling, public health, and social work as well as interdisciplinary graduate work in the social sciences. The program is offered in a classroom format as well as online.

Program Learning Outcomes

- Develop an understanding of all phases of human development across the lifespan.
- Cultivate an appreciation for the diverse perspectives and strengths in a multicultural environment in defining and solving social problems.
- Utilize interdisciplinary methods and approaches to advance communities through data-driven research.
- Understand the role of evaluation and participation in the development of effective interventions, preventions and health promotion strategies and programs for individuals, small groups and communities.
- Develop an appreciation for integrated knowledge across disciplines and contexts in ways that respect different approaches to understanding psychological, social, and physical well-being.

General Education Requirements - 42 Credit Hours
Social Science Requirement: Psychology majors fulfill the General Education Social Science requirement through major study (PSY 2133). A Global Studies elective must be fulfilled using appropriate courses outside of the major.
Required Psychology Major Courses - 42 Credit Hours

The delivery of the evening, online, and Orlando Community Psychology curriculum is designed as an accelerated track for our adult student population. Elements of this degree are adapted from the traditional day psychology program offered through the School of Arts & Sciences on the main campus.
