Aim and Outcomes

The aim of the Master of Arts, Christian Studies and Master of Science, Community Development dual degree program (MACS + MSCD) is to combine a broad graduate theological education with practical industry-specific skills used in the community development field. Such skills include grant writing, program design and evaluation, data-gathering practices, as well as political, economic and managerial tools. Program Length

Dual degrees allow students to complete two degrees simultaneously with fewer credit hours required than if completing those degrees separately. Dual-degree students can complete the dual-degree requirements in two and a half years (12 credit hours each semester, in addition to Summer courses). Admission

Dual-degree applicants must be accepted into each program independently. The admission requirements and process for each degree may be found in the relevant Admission section of the Graduate and Pharmacy Catalog.

Degree Requirements

All dual-degree students studying for the MACS + MSCD dual degrees (71 credit hours) will complete the specified MACS and MSCD courses. For the MACS, dual-degree students will complete eight courses from the MACS Core, as follows: two courses in Old Testament (6 credit hours), two courses in New Testament (6 credit hours), two courses in Theology (6 credit hours), and two courses in Practical Theology (6 credit hours), and two elective courses within the School of Ministry (6 credit hours). For the MSCD, dual-degree students will complete 41 credit hours of specified courses, including a Master’s Thesis, which will fulfill the MACS Comprehensive Examination requirement. A least six credit hours of electives must come from graduate courses offered within the School of Ministry, unless otherwise satisfied by transfer credits. Ministry apprenticeship courses may not fulfill any MACS degree requirements.
