Certificate in Cultural Apologetics

Location(s): PBA Online

18 Credit Hours

The Certificate in Cultural Apologetics at Palm Beach Atlantic University invites students to deepen their understanding of culture, the gospel, and apologetics thought through academic study so that they might experience personal Christian growth and be better equipped to show the goodness, truth, and beauty of Jesus and the gospel to others. The certificate program is available only to non-degree seeking students. Degree-seeking students who are interested in studying these topics are directed to the Major or Minor in Apologetics.

Program Learning Outcomes

“Expected student learning outcomes specify the knowledge, skills, values, and attitudes students are expected to attain in courses or in a program.” Page 69. Resource Manual for the Principles of Accreditation: Foundations for Quality Enhancement, Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC), 2018.

  1. Evaluate key evidence for and against the Christian faith.
  2. Apply critical thinking and integrative skills as an emerging Christian apologist, including a rich understanding of winsome communication to individuals and culture.

Program Structure

The Certificate in Cultural Apologetics curriculum is composed of six three-credit hour courses offered during eight-week subterms, one class in the fall, spring, and summer semesters. Students complete courses electronically in an entirely online setting through the University’s Learning Management System.

Each online course is primarily asynchronous, with the exception of APL 3373, which is synchronous live, allowing students to view lessons and complete assignments at the time of their choosing within stated course deadlines, which typically follow a weekly rhythm.
