Program Learning Outcomes


“Expected student learning outcomes specify the knowledge, skills, values, and attitudes students are expected to attain in courses or in a program.” Page 69. Resource Manual for the Principles of Accreditation: Foundations for Quality Enhancement, Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC), 2018.

  1. Instructional design and lesson planning: The elementary education major will apply concepts for human development and learning theories.
  2. The learning environment: The elementary education major will learn how to maintain a student-centered learning environment that is safe, organized, equitable, flexible, inclusive, and collaborative.
  3. Instructional delivery and facilitation: The elementary education major will consistently utilize a deep and comprehensive knowledge of the subject taught.

General Education Requirements - 43 Credit Hours


Education majors must complete the Baccalaureate Degree Requirements  as set out in the General Education Program .

  • Global Studies Requirement: Elementary Education majors must take   to meet the Global Studies requirement.
  • Mathematics Requirement: Elementary Education majors must take   to meet the Mathematics requirement.
  • Science Requirement: Elementary Education majors must take BIO 1043  to meet the Science requirement; the corresponding lab (BIO 1041 ) is not required.
  • Social Science Requirement: Elementary Education majors must take EDU 2133  to meet the Social Science requirement

Articulation


A.A. Degree: Elementary education majors who hold a conferred Associates of Arts degree from a regionally accredited college or university may matriculate into the elementary education program. Neither minor nor additional second semester of student teaching is required. Nonetheless, in order to complete the B.S. degree in two academic years, A.A. students must pass the FTCE General Knowledge exam before or during their initial semester at PBA.

 

Notes:


Honors students: Elementary education majors need neither minor nor additional major; however, additional honors electives are required.

Transfer students: Elementary education majors may waive MAT 1813  if they have successfully completed college algebra and statistics; however MAT 1823  is required.
