Ministry: Concentration in Worship Ministries, B.A.

120 Credit Hours

This major provides students the knowledge, skills, and character necessary for leading an effective worship ministry within a church or parachurch ministry. Courses concentrate on providing the biblical and theological foundations for meaningful worship, the development of organizational and administrative competencies in leading a worship ministry, the nurture and care of people, and the practical and technical skills needed in worship ministries.

While students completing this major may pursue graduate or seminary education, many may utilize their training upon graduation to serve in various capacities on the staff of a church or parachurch: church worship pastor/director, youth worship leader, director of children or youth choirs, camp worship leaders.

General Education Requirements - 43 Credit Hours


Ministry majors must meet the Baccalaureate Degree Requirements  as set out in the General Education Program .

  • Social Science Requirement: Students in this concentration are required to select MLS 4063  - Church in Society as their Social Science Elective.
  • Global Studies Requirement: It is strongly recommended that students in this concentration select ICS 3503 - World Religions  or CIN 3123 - International Cinema  as their Global Studies Elective.
  • Science Requirement: It is strongly recommended that students in this concentration select PHY 1063  Acoustics of Music as their General Education Science course.

Note:


NOTE: This concentration requires either a Popular Music minor or a Music minor (or another major/minor in music with approval of the MLS department chair).  Popular Music minors and Music minors usually need a minimum of six semesters to complete sequenced requirements.  For the four-credit Applied Music requirement in the Popular Music or Music minor, students with a concentration in Worship Ministries should choose vocal, piano, or guitar (exceptions permitted by instructor on a case-by-case basis).
