PRX 3221 - Pharmacoeconomics1 Credit Hours This course provides an overview of economic factors that influence medication therapy decisions in contemporary health systems and payment for medication-related services. Particular emphasis is placed on the cost-effectiveness of prescription drug therapy in relation to health outcomes for specific conditions. Students gain experience in objectively reviewing the results of health outcome studies and the validity of manufacturers’ promotional literature from a pharmacoeconomic perspective. The economics of prescription reimbursement are explored for a variety of third-party payers, including managed care organizations, private health insurance plans, and government programs, such as Medicare and Medicaid.
