PLS 3423 - International Relations and World Politics

This course is designed to introduce students to the major schools of international relations theory and uses these theoretical approaches to address a variety of issues in world politics. The issues include decision-making in foreign policy, international security and intervention, human rights and human security, globalization, environmental politics, and the role of international institutions, states, and non-state actors. For this purpose, this course surveys the key actors. Issues, concepts, processes, patterns, and historical events that have shaped and continue to influence world politics. Major topics include the nature of political power and decision-making, causes of war and peace, international cooperation, security and conflict, terrorism, migration, trade, development, human rights, the global environment, and the global revolution in communication and interdependence.
