EOB 5023 - Philosophy of Social Science

3 Credit Hours
This course is an examination of the nature and aims of the philosophical foundations of the social sciences. Attention is given to differing accounts of human action, comparative social analysis, and the foundations of social science theory. Special consideration is given to the relationship between the social sciences, the individual moral agent, and the organization and society. This course includes competing views on epistemology or theories of knowledge, ontology, and the nature of reality as social beings. As well as considering logical fallacies, students will examine how these differences in philosophical beliefs affect the methods, research, conclusions, theories, and use or practice those results from the application of the same in the pluralistic organizational and societal context.

Note: This course is reading intensive. Students unfamiliar with philosophical writings and research methodology may need to make appropriate preparations and allocate additional time to comprehend challenging texts.
