EDU 3073 - Elementary Language and Cognition

This course provides an in-depth exploration of the essential components of literacy acquisition, including phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, comprehension, syllabication, structural analysis, grammar, and spelling. Emphasis is placed on the interconnectedness of these elements and their collective role in supporting reading and writing development. Students will engage with research-based instructional strategies to effectively assess and support each area of literacy. Application in a school setting is required for this class and allows candidates to apply their learning in real-world educational contexts.
