The mission of the School of Ministry is to prepare students with the knowledge, skills, and character necessary for effective Christian ministry.
A successful graduate of the School of Ministry will:
- Demonstrate a foundational knowledge of the biblical, theological, historical, and practical dimensions of the Christian faith.
- Demonstrate the skills to provide Christian leadership in a specific area of the church’s ministry.
- Display the character necessary for effective Christian ministry.
Note: School of Ministry majors are required to complete BIB 1003 - Exploring the Bible .
SOM Traditional Core Requirements
Please refer to the major or concentration for program-specific requirements.
Required Core Courses for School of Ministry Majors (Traditional)
Special Requirements
Note for students desiring to pursue two majors, both of which are in the School of Ministry:
Students wishing to “double major” in the School of Ministry are permitted to do so with the following guidelines:
1) Required courses in the SOM Traditional Core Majors will meet the Core Course requirements listed in both majors although their credits will not be counted twice. Students do not need to replace these additional credits with any other courses.
2) Major-specific course requirements, as well as major-specific elective requirements for both majors must be completed. In cases where the major-specific course requirements overlap, a class cannot be counted for credit twice nor would the student be required to take it twice. Rather, the student will request an acceptable substitute that will require approval by the Dean.
Note for students desiring to pursue both a major AND minor in the School of Ministry:
A student may have both a major and a minor within the School of Ministry and a student may have more than one minor in the School of Ministry. When a student’s major and minor both require the same class (for example Spiritual Formation), the class cannot be counted for credit twice nor would the student be required to take it twice. Rather, the student can substitute any other School of Ministry course (except BIB 1003 and THL 4153 ) of the same or higher level than the course originally required. Students wishing to substitute a course taught outside of the School of Ministry need to submit a substitution request.
