COU 5403 - Social and Cultural Foundations of Counseling3 Credit Hours This course will help students to develop awareness, knowledge, and skills to provide services effectively and competently provide services to diverse populations in a variety of settings. The course will present an exploration of multicultural and pluralistic characteristics within and among diverse groups, nationally and internationally, and factors that shape counselor and client identities and impact the counseling relationship. The course aims at increasing student knowledge of theories and models of multicultural counseling, multicultural and social justice counseling competencies, and strategies for working with and advocating for diverse individuals and groups.
