PLS 4243 - American Public Policy: Politics, Parties, and Process

This course examines U.S. federal public policy and how that policy is made and implemented in a system of separation of powers and federalism. The topics include how partisanship, ideology, public opinion, other political factors influence the policy-making process, Major items of domestic concern such as environmental protection, civil rights, immigration, fiscal, and monetary policy will be covered. The course will also address some contemporary issues in foreign policy such as trade, U.S. alliances, the use of force, counterterrorism.
