PLS 3223 - Latin American Politics3 Credit Hour(s) This course presents a broad overview of the main questions on Latin American political and economic development. It proceeds from an overview of the Latin American region as a whole to detailed studies of specific countries and issues in U.S.-Latin American relations. Students are exposed to development theories that seek to explain Latin America’s political instability and persistent economic inequality. The leading thread in this course is to explore the causes underlying the vulnerability of Latin American democratic systems to various forms of autocratic regimes.
