PHL 4753 - Philosophy of Mind3 Credit Hour(s) In this course thought experiments will be an important tool for thinking about the relation of the mind and brain. Wittgenstein’s beetles in boxes, Molyneux’s Problem, Searle’s Chinese room, and science-fiction zombies (among others) will be used to explore what we know about our own mental functioning. The characteristics of injured brains and strange cases will also provide a deeper philosophical understanding of our minds. Also includes a discussion of the role of the mental in a physical universe.
