Program Learning Outcomes
“Expected student learning outcomes specify the knowledge, skills, values, and attitudes students are expected to attain in courses or in a program.” Page 69. Resource Manual for the Principles of Accreditation: Foundations for Quality Enhancement, Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC), 2018.
1. Students present confident public performances that demonstrate acceptable technique, correct diction, secure intonation, stylistic expression, and interpretive musicianship.
2. Develop future vocal teachers who possess the appropriate skills to teach voice effectively.
Required Bachelor of Music Core - 30 Credit Hours
Major Courses - 18 Credit Hours
Performance Requirements - 34 Credit Hours
- Voice Major (14 Credit Hours)
- Class Piano or Applied Secondary Area (4 Credit Hours, minimum) Continuous piano study required until the piano proficiency exam is passed.
- Oratorio Chorus (8 Credit Hours, minimum)
- Second Ensemble (8 Credit Hours, minimum) In addition to Oratorio Chorus, all Voice Performance majors are required to take Concert Choir; when space is not available, Women’s Chorale or an appropriate ensemble for male singers is to be substituted.
Elective Music Courses - 6 Credit Hours
Ensembles may not be used to fulfill elective course requirements. Dance and Theatre courses may count as music electives.

*Six additional required credit hours are needed to meet the 135 total and the 33 upper-level.
