In addition to the Faith, Roots, and Reason (General Education) requirements of at least 43 credits, a student must complete 1) an approved General Studies area concentration to include, but not limited to, a minimum of 21 credit hours of 3000 or above level work and 2) a minor. As with all undergraduate degrees, a student must complete a total of 120 credits, 42 of which must be upper-level, to be graduated. To apply for candidacy, the student should have completed a minimum of 90 credit hours of college work, and an application should be made no later than one full semester prior to graduation. A student is admitted to the program with the approval of the Dean of the school in which the concentration resides. Applications for admission into the program can be obtained through the Office of the Registrar.
The Bachelor of General Studies Degree (BGS) can also be selected at the beginning of the student’s education. In addition to the Faith, Roots, and Reason requirements of 43 credits, a student must complete one (1) or two (2) approved General Studies meta-majors. As with all undergraduate degrees, a student must complete a total of 120 credits, 42 of which must be upper-level. In addition to the BGS meta-majors, a student may declare a minor.
The BGS curriculum allows an individual the flexibility to select one or more meta-majors to enhance professional or personal goals. Advisors offer personalized attention in career exploration and academic advising and discuss educational alternatives with potential students.
