Program Learning Outcomes


“Expected student learning outcomes specify the knowledge, skills, values, and attitudes students are expected to attain in courses or in a program.” Page 69.   1. A student meeting the requirements for a degree in Computer Science will critically analyze, apply concepts and select appropriate tools and techniques in solving computing problems.
  2. A student meeting the requirements for a degree in  computer science will develop (i.e. plan, implement and deploy) an Internet-based multi-tier application with multiple databases.
  3. A student meeting the requirements for a degree in  computer science will demonstrate his interest and expertise in one field of computing application (e.g. games, simulation, medical, movies, etc…)
  4. A student meeting the requirements for a degree in  computer science  will demonstrate a sound understanding of the basic theories of computer science, with an ability to exercise critical judgment across a range of issues.

General Education Requirements - 44 Credit Hours


Computer Science majors must meet the Baccalaureate Degree Requirements  as set out in the General Education Program .

School of Arts and Sciences Additional Natural Science Requirements - 5 Credit Hours


Students in the School of Arts and Sciences must take five additional hours of natural science: 1 lab to accompany the course taken for general education [BIO 1043 , BIO 1023 , ESC 1043 , OCY 1043 , FOR 1003  , PHY 1033 , PHY 1063 , or PHY 2113  and one additional natural science course and accompanying lab. The two natural sciences must be in different areas (both cannot be in biological sciences). In sum, students are required to take a minimum of 8 hours of natural science courses: two natural science courses (in two different areas) along with the labs associated with each. 

Required Mathematics Courses - 7 Credit Hours


Required Computer Science Senior Course - 4 Credit Hours


Computer Science Electives (3000 or 4000 level) - 6 Credit Hours

Additional required credit hours - 18 Credit Hours*


Eleven (11) of these credits must be at the 3000 level or higher.

*This meets the 120-credit-hour requirement and the 42-upper-level requirement.
