Program Learning Outcomes

1. Actively engage in civil society in both face-to-face and digital settings.
2. Participate meaningfully in civil discourse through the development of skills in statistical, rhetorical, and organizational analysis.
3. Make ethical judgments about their own and others’ contributions to civil discourse in face-to-face interactions, and social, digital, and public media.
4. Apply their faith to communication interactions with others.
5. Exercise skills in negotiation and mediation of conflict.
6. Practice appropriate skills for speech and dialogue in a variety of situational and cultural contexts, including public address, the social landscape and the natural environment.
7. Promote the intellectual, spiritual, and emotional growth of others from differing cultural and social contexts.
Graduation Requirements
Conferral of a Baccalaureate degree in this program of study is determined by successful completion of the Baccalaureate Graduation Requirements outlined here .
NOTE: Students must earn 39 upper level (3000-4000) credit hours in order to graduate. A total of at least 21 of these upper level credit hours must be completed in the selected major.

Faith, Roots, and Reason (General Education) - 43 Credit Hours
Communication majors must meet the Faith, Roots, and Reason (General Education) Requirements as set out in Faith, Roots, and Reason Program .
- Fine Art Recommendation: Communication majors are well advised to take THE 2212 - Theatre Appreciation , CIN 1002 - Television Appreciation , or CIN 1202 - Film Appreciation to fulfill the Fine Arts requirement of the Faith, Roots, and Reason (General Education) program.
- Social Science Recommendation: Communication majors are strongly recommended to take COM 3573 - Communication Research Methods to fulfill the Social Science requirement of the Faith, Roots, and Reason (General Education) program.
- Global Studies Recommendation: Communication majors are strongly recommended to take COM 3523 - Global Digital Media Ethics to fulfill the Global Studies requirement of the Faith, Roots, and Reason (General Education) program. Communication majors with a concentration that includes one of the Global Studies courses are required to select a separate course from the Faith, Roots & Reason (General Education) list to meet this requirement. Consult with your advisor regarding the best way to handle this requirement.
